Before you decide whether or not you would like to take part, it is important for you to read this sheet so you understand why the study is being carried out and what it will involve. What is the Purpose of the Study? The purpose of this study is to investigate and critically evaluate the factors that contribute to cost and time overruns in nuclear projects managed under NEC3 contracts, with a specific focus on the management of Compensation Events (CEs). Drawing on six years of direct experience working on Sellafield NEC3 contracts, where numerous projects experienced significant delays and budget increases, this research seeks to understand the underlying causes of these overruns. The study will explore the complexities of moving Compensation Events from notification to implementation, including their integration into baseline schedules and project-sanctioned Purchase Orders (POs). By identifying and analysing the key challenges and inefficiencies in this process, the research aims to propose practical strategies and best practices that can be adopted to streamline the management of Compensation Events. The ultimate goal is to provide actionable insights that can help mitigate delays and cost escalations in future nuclear projects, contributing to more effective and efficient project delivery under NEC3 contracts. Why have I been invited? You have been requested to take part in this research as you have worked\/currently work in the Nuclear industry and have worked\/currently work under NEC3. As you have the knowledge and expertise related to NEC3, Nuclear projects and have input into the Compensation Event process, it is believed that your contribution will be a value addition to the research project Do I have to take part? No. It is up to you whether you would like to take part in the study. Participation is voluntary. This information sheet is to help you make that decision. Even if you decide to take part, you are free to withdraw from the study at any time, without giving a reason and with no negative consequences. You are completely free to decide whether or not to take part, or to take part and then leave the study before completion. What will happen if I take part? You will be requested to complete a short survey, which will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete, made up of both multiple-choice and open-ended questions in relation to your experience and your views on how compensation events are managed\/have been manged on your projects. What are the possible benefits of taking part? You will have the opportunity to contribute to a research study that aims to improve the management of Compensation Events under NEC3 contracts. Your insights and experiences could help shape best practices and drive positive changes in how Compensation Events are managed in future. Engaging with the survey may encourage you to reflect on your own experiences and practices and lead to personal and professional growth. Will my participation in this study be kept confidential and anonymous? Yes. All responses will be kept anonymous. How will my data be stored, and how long will it be stored for? All electronic data will be stored on the University U drive, which is password protected. All data will be stored in accordance with University guidelines and the Data Protection Act (2018). It will be destroyed after a maximum of 3 years following the conclusion of the study What categories of personal data will be collected and processed in this study? Names and emails are the only personal information gathered for communication purposes. The dissertation does not include these. What is the legal basis for processing data? Under GDPR, researchers must be open and honest about the legal justification for any study that involves the collection and use of personal data. Although the GDPR offers a variety of legal justifications, university research initiatives would typically rely on Article 6(1)(e) of the Regulation, which states that \"processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest.\" Who is Organising and Funding the Study? The present research project has received no funding What will happen to the results of the study? The results will be used for a Professional Research Study as part of a Bsc Quantity Surveying Degree at Northumbria University. The general findings might be reported in a scientific journal or presented at a research conference, however the data will be anonymized and you or the data you have provided will not be personally identifiable, unless we have asked for your specific consent for this beforehand. Who has reviewed this study? The research project has been approved under Northumbria University’s Module Level Research Ethics approval for DA6031. What are my rights as a participant in this study?
